      Family Violence

Family Violence is when someone in your family hurts someone else in your family. It might be your aunty, uncle, cousin, grand-dad, or anyone else in your family.

Sometimes kids might not be pushed or yelled at, but they can still see or hear family being hurt. This is not right, kids shouldn't see or hear family members being hurt.

Your mum might want to take you away from the family so you don't get hurt, but sometimes the person being mean makes it really hard for your mum to do that.

If you or your mum are getting hurt by someone in your family, or anyone else, you can call the Police on
000 or call Kids Help Line
      1800 55 1800.

Sometimes, people will tell you not to tell anyone. They might say that people wont believe you and you will get in trouble. You will not get in trouble if you tell people about the abuse.

For Aboriginal people, things that happen in the past also make it painful for their family. The violence comes from the past. Things like people from England coming to Australia and stealing land, stealing the children, bringing drugs and alcohol and hurting Aboriginal people.

If you don't know about Aboriginal history or culture, get an adult to help you look at the Creative Spirits website: http://www.creativespirits.info/

Violence is never your fault and don't let anyone tell you it is!!

If you or people in your family are sad, you can tell the Kids Help Line
